First things First, I Need You!
This year I’m really diving deep into some big dreams and goals I have had for such a long time. In this post I’ll be sharing some of my dreams, goals, plans, and the tools I will be using to help me achieve some of these! And the best part is, YOU guys are a big part of these big dreams of mine. One of my goals is to grow this community, but I’ll share more on that later.
Looking forward to a Homemaker’s 2023 New Year
I’m not too big into New Year’s resolutions as they can make you feel like you fail every time you slip up. So this year I want to focus on learning and growing.
This year is going to bring some exciting things! Part of my goal is to grow as a person and as a business.
Personal Homemaker’s 2023 New Year Goals and plans
Below are some of the personal goals I have for this year!
- Getting organized
- Health and wellness
- Learn new skills
- Improve/expand life
- Dreaming Big
Some of these things go together and some even go with my business goals as well so get excited for that!
Business Homemaker’s 2023 New Year goals and plans
- Consistent posts and content
- Learning new skills to share
- Grow my community
- Expand our life/company
- Add in video content…(this one is a little ambitious, but we are dreaming big remember?)
Getting organized
This year I plan on reorganizing my whole life. A reset if you will. After having 2 kids under 2 my life felt wild and overwhelming at times and it’s time to put a stop to all the crazy (or at least some of it) and put in systems to streamline my chaos.
Organizing the home
There is lots of organizing to be done in my small home and with the holidays just ending there’s most definitely some extra clutter we need to get rid of. I am coming up with my own “I’m a hot mess reset”. This will include getting my home in shape while slowly teaching myself how stay on top of things.
Organizing my time
When I was fresh out of high school, I lived on my own, had my first job, and was a full time college student. I had to learn how to manage my time well now that no one was doing it for me and that’s when I stumbled across time blocking! I took many organizing and productivity courses and did tons of research in this topic and I think now is the Perfect time (with having 2 little ones and a home and this blog) to revamp my block schedule and put new routines into place.
Organizing Finances
This is kinda the same story as above where I had to figure things out all on my own for the first time. Yes, I did go through a budgeting rabbit hole as well but that is why I am here blogging to you today! I’m pretty good with numbers and taking care of the budget so I can keep this short. This year we just want to keep track of all our spending better and be good stewards of the blessings God has given us.
Health and Wellness Goals
A few of my goals are of course health and wellness goals. Basically I want to balance my life in many ways, from balancing time to balancing hormones and nutrition.
Creating healthy eating habits
If you know me at all, you know I already try to cook from scratch and make loads of yummy probiotic foods at home, but this year we will focus on balance and paring foods well. Less eating out and more nutrient dense foods that will fuel my body the right way.
Mindful movement
Exercising more is also on this list but being intentional about my workouts is the main goal. Learning to listen to my body and not over do it. The Goal is NOT to be super skinny with a six pack, but to be healthy and energized.
Reading goals
In general, I just want to read more. I’m not a huge fan of reading but I know it is super important. After all, Knowledge is power!
Bible in a year
I’ll be attempting to read the whole bible in a year, but won’t be hard on myself. The goal is to just learn about God more and create a deeper relationship with him! I have to try hard to be a perfectionist in this area, because I can so easily drop the ball a few days and feel like I failed. Instead of just giving up I’ll just pick up where I left off. I haven’t decided on a plan yet but if I go with a plan that has set scripture for set times I won’t try and catch up, instead I’ll skip and pick up right where the plan wants me to be. I’ll also listen to the bible some days to help me achieve my goals!
Other reading
Other reading goals are to just learn more! Read or listen to as many books and ideas as I can to learn and grow more!
I also want to read to my kids more and have a daily scripture reading time with them.
Learning New Skills
This year we are adding in some fun new things to this Homemaker’s Backyard homestead. Since we live in town with basically just a small backyard to work with, we do a lot of learning where we are. We learn skills, do tons of research, and basically cook every meal from scratch and learn as many kitchen skills as possible until God opens a door for us to move to a property where we can do more.
Preserving
Again I am beyond excited for this year and can’t wait to share! A few things I’ll be talking about this year is our preserving methods. The most simple methods and some mind blowing methods.
We are saving up for a freeze dryer! So get ready for some cool ideas! i am also dabbling into dehydrating and canning. I will also share simple and quick meals from scratch, so don’t worry, there is something for everyone.
Brewing
My husband asked for a mead brewing kit for Christmas so add that to the skills to learn list!
Fermenting
It’s no secret that I love fermenting things, but there is so much you can ferment and more for me to learn! I already have and maintain a kombucha scoby, sourdough starter, and water kefir grains so I feel pretty confident in that. Below is a list of things we will be learning and adding to our ferments:
- Yogurt- I am starting a heritage yogurt culture so that i can have yogurt forever.
- Root Beer- Did you know old fashioned soda is actually full of probiotics and healthy for you?!? I’ll be sharing my journey with you as I cultivate a ginger bug and make all kinds of yummy drinks.
- the harvest- another way to preserve the harvest and I’ve never done it! Just imagine homemade sauerkraut, fermented salsa and hot sauce, real pickles, and so much more!
- fermented garlic and honey- this could go in the harvest category but it deserves its own! It’s not only delicious but nutritious as well. Definitely adding it to my apothecary.
Duck, Duck, Goose!
We are adding ducks to our backyard homestead this year! It is my dream to add all kinds of livestock to our homestead, but ducks will do for now. Eventually we may add a small flock of geese because I have a romantic homestead dream to have a goose as a pet…I know, I know, homesteading is not romantic in the slightest, but I do have a tendency to dream and romanticize EVERYTHING, and I’m not sorry about it one bit!
My dear friend has convinced me that we need ducks and is full of knowledge, so i hope she’s ready for all the questions! Go check her out on instagram @jdctodd
Also, my family has been offered the most beautiful breed of ducks so we are jumping in with both feet! I couldn’t be more excited.
The garden and Apothecary
This spring we will be adding more to our garden. Last year was a interesting year for us, the things that usually did very well for us did not do great at all, while the things we have always had trouble with did pretty good compared to previous years! We are taking what we learned and hopefully get a better outcome this year.
We will also be adding more for preserving and for medicinal purposes! I have been diving deep in healing my body naturally so this is a great addition to the backyard homestead.
As you can see I love natural remedies so if you are looking for a great source of natural medicine and healing your body from the inside out check out my favorite source here! Earthley Wellness has so many wonderful products that are great for the whole family! I don’t go anywhere without a stash of tinctures for both me and my little ones. This is a great place to start building your natural medicine cabinet and reducing some toxins throughout the entire home!
The blog
As you can see, adding these new goals and additions will give me so much to share! I’m hoping you will find my posts helpful, interesting, and valuable! This blog has been a dream of mine for many years and I love getting to share these skills with you all.
I will be posting one blog post a week and have some amazing projects in the works for this business!
