Why Use Ezekiel flour?
Ezekiel flour is actually healthy! Let me clarify, all REAL, UNTOUCHED, ORGANIC foods are healthy and so good for us. Ezekiel flour however is just amazing! Not only does it taste good but it is packed full of vitamins and minerals.
Named after Ezekiel from the Bible
God tells Ezekiel to take these ingredients, store them and make bread out of them. This bread can sustain life! Keep reading to learn how!
Ezekiel flour is a complete protein
Ezekiel flour has more protein than other flour and is actually a complete protein and has all the amino acids that sustain life! This is because it is a mix of different grains and legumes. Ezekiel bread is sometimes referred to as fasting bread because of God telling Ezekiel to eat by weight 20 shekels of bread and the sixth part of a hin for water everyday for 390 days! This is about an 8 oz portion of bread a day and about 2/3 quart of water.
How much protein is in Ezekiel Flour
This recipe has 164.24g of protein. If you were to portion out the recipe into “servings” (1 serving for everyday of the week-7 days) that would be about 23.5g of protein per serving.
P.S. If I needed to just survive this would be a good recourse to have around, but I strive to have at least 100g of protein a day as a breastfeeding mom. But this recipe is still pretty healthy and fulfilling regardless.
Healthy, Filling and Cost effective
Grinding your own grains is a good way to stretch your dollar and freshly ground whole wheat has all of its nutrients still in the flour so tummies will be filled up more quickly and for longer.
Because Ezekiel flour is a mix of grains and legumes it makes this flour really affordable and healthy as you can see from the protein section. You can also use red wheat berries instead of einkorn in the recipe but I like to use einkorn because it is an ancient grain while red wheat is a modern gain. Ancient grains tend to be easier on our digestion than modern wheat.
Another way you can boost the nutritional value and digestibility is to soak or sprout your grains and legumes. You can buy some of these pre-spouted for you as well. Just remember if you are sprouting them yourself you’ll also need to dry them COMPLETELY before running them through your grain mill!
