Elegant and beautiful, these hand dipped candles will out shine them all. Made with nothing but natural bees wax, these candles are not only gorgeous in a center piece but are also nontoxic. This would be a great activity to do with kids!

Why use beeswax for hand dipped candles?
Beeswax is natural and purifying
Beeswax is a natural non-toxic wax made from honeycombs from bee hives. Beeswax is amazing for a non-toxic lifestyle because they will naturally purify the air as they burn. They do this by releasing negative ions, bringing all the bad nasty toxins down to the ground. Then you can vacuum them up leaving your air nice and clean.
High melting point and low mess
Bees wax candles have a high melting point making them last longer than other candles. They also produce a beautiful glow, perfect for a moody dinner. As they burn they also have very little dripping making them mess free! As they burn down the wax just burns away with it leaving very little drips.
Things you will need to make hand dipped candles
- Double boiler – A pot with water and a bowl on top will work just fine.
- Beeswax – local is best but a good quality brand in pellet form will work as well.
- 2 tall containers – I used a tall glass from the dollar store but tall mason jars will work.
- Wicks
- some type of weight to hold the wick down
- Alternatively you can get a tall and slim melting pot like this one for both melting and dipping!
How to make hand dipped candles
In a double boiler melt melt the beeswax down.
Prepare your wicks with the weights and have them ready to go!
Once melted you can stir in essential oils if desired.
Pour into a tall glass that you don’t mind being covered in wax for the rest of eternity, or keep it in a tall slim melting pot if you used one. Have another glass prepared with cold water tall enough for the candles.
Quickly dip the wicks into the wax, using the weights to hold the wick down and straight.
Then dip the wick into the cool water and back into the wax again.
Repeat dipping back and forth between the wax and the water.
Cut the weight off along the way!
Once to the desired thickness and dipped into cool water it is now finished!
Repeat for all the candles you want to make!
