Why I make homemade Strawberry Lemonade gummies
One my journey as first time mom, I always struggled with giving my new eater and now toddler processed junk for snacks. And of course her favorite things were those baby snacks and you guessed it, fruit snacks. So I set out to find the perfect first snacks and toddler snacks. All the recipes I found were long and as a learning first time mom that wasn’t going to be doable.
Finally I came across homemade gummies. They are so quick and easy, while also being the perfect on the go snack! My toddler loves them, especially when we use fun shaped molds. Bonus, these strawberry lemonade not only taste good, but they are packed full of collagen and protein. Two things I struggle to get into my little ones diet because she refuses to eat almost everything these days.
Why you should make your own gummies
Many gummies at the store are packed full of artificial ingredients and dyes. Making them at home will allow you to control every ingredient that goes into them.
Gummies at home can be packed full of nutrients. Unflavored beef gelatin provides collagen and depending on the other ingredients used, you can have a power house of nutrients in a few single gummies.
Don’t be afraid to experiment. You can make so many types of gummies. Use any kind of juice to make any flavor gummies. Make them medicinal gummies by making elderberry gummies. A great one for new eaters 6 months+ is bone broth gummies cut into finger length strips.
The least important but probably the most fun reason to make your own strawberry lemonade gummies is the shapes and molds they can be. Amazon has some cute molds for gummy bears (or in our case dino gummies) all different shapes and sizes. Pick out you child’s, or let’s be honest, your favorite gummy mold and have fun!
How to make homemade gummies?
Making homemade gummies is actually a really simple process and you can use the same process for pretty much all your gummy making. You will be whipping them up in no time at all because its that easy!
First choose your liquid or flavor.
Next add 3 scoops per 1 cup of liquid.
Let this sit and bloom for about 5 minutes without heat.
Place on the stove and slowly heat the mixture up.
Once its heated and melted all together and smooth take it off the heat.
Pour the liquid into the molds or whatever container you are using.
Place molds into the fridge until firm.
Pop them out of the molds and enjoy! If you are using a rimmed sheet pan or anything else of the liking, you can cut your gummy into squares or strips. Or if you are feeling extra, you can use cookie cutters for more fun shapes!
FAQ
Why are my homemade gummies so chewy?
There is a few reasons why this can happen.
- First, you may be using too much gelatin
- Maybe not enough liquid
- left them out to long uncovered so they lost it’s moisture
Try adding a little less gelatin and see if that works! Not enough and you will have a Jelly or Jell-O consistency. You do not want this to happen for a toddler snack. It will get messy and melty really fast. Ask me how I know! But you also do not want to add too much because it will get too tough and not as enjoy able or flavorful.
How long do homemade gummies last?
Homemade gummies will last about a week in the fridge if kept in a sealed container.
How do you keep homemade gummies from sticking?
I don’t find that I have this problem too often, but if you want you can coat in corn starch or powdered sugar. I would rather skip this step though.

How to make Strawberry Lemonade Gummies
Fist add 1 cup or 8 fl oz of strawberry lemonade to a small sauce pan (without heat)
Next, add in 3 scoops of unfavored beef gelatin to the strawberry lemonade (still no heat)
Let this bloom for about 5 minutes. Then stir to make sure there is no clumps of powder
Slowly heat the bloomed gelatin and strawberry lemonade on the stove top.
Once everything looks melted and combined (like a thin syrup) without any clumps or graininess, take the mixture off the heat.
Quickly use the dropper to drop the liquid into the little gummy molds. If you got the molds I am using, there is a few larger gummy mold sheets.
You can use a small measuring cup or container with a spout to pour the liquid into the bigger molds. Or just pour all the liquid into a rimmed sheet or baking dish.
Put the molds into the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until firm. This can take significantly less time or a whole lot more depending on how thick your mold is.
Pop the Gummies out of the molds!
Store them in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
